  1.     The capacitance of a capacitor is enhanced by

  3. plates of the capacitor. Dielectrics work by using 
  4. the electric field between the two plates to align 
  5. molecular electric dipoles. Since the potential is 
  6. proportional to the electric field, the potential 
  7. is lowered . The factor by which it is lowered 
  8. is called the dielectric constant k .
